A little boy… sent me a charming card with a little drawing. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.

The weirdest thing that is happening today is that THIS ROBIN (pictured) wants to get into my house SO BAD. For the past couple of hours it has been sitting on the windowsill, and intermittently taking a dive at the window. I don’t think it hurts itself, because it never gets going fast enough, but the thunking sound is disconcerting. Also, WHAT DOES IT WANT?
Emma has given up barking at it and gone back to bed. In my mind, she was like, “forget it. This dumb bird isn’t worth it.”
To add to the gallery of examples of pallets repurposed for various uses, there’s this:
Stephane Beauchet’s mosaic table — with tile inlaid between the pallet’s wood slats. Nice!
this is the first repurposed pallet project i’ve seen online that I actually think looks nice. KUDOS.
It was so beautiful today — the sun was shining and it became impossible to be grumpy.
My province, Alberta, dodged electing a crazy right-wing party, settling for a familiar, slightly less right-wing party. And also possibly saving ourselves from becoming a laughingstock in the rest of Canada? So that’s good? Well, not good. But not as bad as it could be.
And: Cheezy as it may be, I love voting, and I love seeing other people voting, and I especially love seeing other people taking their kids with them to go vote. It’s irresistible.
James and I finished re-watching Game of Thrones and now we get to start Season 2. (We wanted to let a few new episodes accumulate, I hate having to wait for new episodes of things)
I have the most beautiful eggplant seedlings growing in a rubbermaid tub downstairs. And I found an asparagus spear poking through the mulch today.
So those are some good things that I am going to feel good about.
